Join the Himalayan Outback for another Himalayan fishing adventure, in the Himalayas, for some Trout fishing. You will be fishing a tributary of the Bhagirathi River in the North Indian state of Uttarkhand (formerly known as Uttaranchal). The spot where we set up camp, on the banks of the stream we fish in, is at an elevation of approx. 5,000 ft and is surrounded by beautiful pine forests. It is a picturesque area that is rich in culture and natural recourses - a photographers dream!

The Bhagirathi River forms a series of pools before meeting the main river, some five miles below our camp. There are plenty of pools to choose from. Anglers are driven up and down the river to fish different pools. By the end of the trip every angler will have the opportunity covers the entire section along with their guide. When walking though the terraced fields to the next beat you will come across villages and see their self-sustaining lifestyle that has changed little over the years. The villagers are friendly and often invite you into their house for a cup of tea.

When not fishing, anglers even have a choice of visiting a famous prayer ceremony (aarti), that is held every day by the banks of the Bhagirathi River at sunset. You can even hike up to a local village to experience the Himalayan lifestyle of the natives, or visit a nearby Trout farm, or just relax at camp, maybe tie a few flies for the next session on the river.

A drive is organised so the anglers can get a good view of some of the 20,000 + ft Himalayan peaks. You are very close to an area which has always been famous for mountaineering. Every year several climbing expeditions are launched into the Himalayas from here. During the trip you can even visit one of the best mountaineering institutes in the world, which is an hour's drive from our camp.

The Trout here are mainly Brown, and can be taken on dry flies. However, due to the fast current in most pools, anglers may prefer use sub surface flies and nymphs. Waders are a must in this river.
