The Ten-Day "Mahseer and Trout Fly-Fishing Adventure"

TRIP BREIFING: Designed for the angler who'd like to pack in two classic game fish species on two different river systems, in one fishing trip. This trip targets the Himalayan Mahseer and Trout. Both the rivers we fish on this trip are apt for fishing on the fly. Like most other Himalayan Outback trips this trip too offers plenty of cultural opportunities, during the short hikes built into the trip and other parts of the program. This trip is a great opportunity to experience this beautiful region.

  • Discover the great fly-fishing possibilities of the Indian Himalayas.

  • Himalayan Mahseer and Brown Trout fishing in some of the most untouched rivers.

  • Experience a beautiful Himalayan Safari and some hiking as part of the trip.

This adventure aims at bringing together unique opportunities for fishing both the Himalayan Mahseer and the Brown Trout in a single trip. This is a distinctive trip that explores some of the finest fishing rivers surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan terrain that takes you up to an altitude of 9,000 ft.

The trip is based upon fishing two separate locations, as both the fisheries are different in habitat and enable you to experience a unique blend of two rivers for fly-fishing for both the Himalayan Mahseer and the Brown Trout.

The first river you will be fishing is the Yammuna - a short trek is required to reach these remote pools. This is where you can use your 7-9 weight rods to take on the Golden Mahseer. As the river is crystal clear you will be able to see some of the large fish that inhabit this river. The guide will walk you to several pools and rapids during the course of your trip.

The second leg of the trip takes you to the Bhagirathi River to fish for the Brown Trout in the most picturesque surroundings.

Suggested Program

Day 01 :

Arrive at New Delhi International Airport where you will be met by a representative of The Himalayan Outback and transferred to the hotel.

Overnight you will stay at a hotel in New Delhi.

Day 02 :

Board the early morning train from New Delhi for a 3 hour journey, accompanied by our representative. This train journey will be followed by a 2 hour drive to the river. Arrive at the river and begin a beautiful 2 hour hike, along the river, to the campsite.

Arrive at the pristine campsite, and after tent allocation and hot beverages, you can begin fishing. You can start with fishing the pools near camp. The setting here is very picturesque and these pools, because of being away form the road head, produce good sport.

Day 03 :

Fish around the camp, your guides will take you further up and down the river to different pools.

Day 04 :

Spend another day at this location fishing; there are plenty of fishing possibilities, which can be explored in the vicinity of the camp.

Day 05 :

Fish early morning and then trek 2 hours back to the road head. Packed lunch will be provided on the trek. You will be driven to your hotel. In the early evening we will visit the Himalayan Mahseer sanctuary where you will be able to see (almost touch!) large numbers of these beautiful fish.

Over night in hotel, take a shower, and get ready for the next leg of the adventure.

Day 06 :

We start the day early today. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on route on the beautiful drive. The drive takes the entire day, driving through the beautiful Himalayan ranges, up to an elevation on 9,000 ft.

Arrive in camp by the evening, which is set up on the banks of the stream you will be fishing, there are some nice spots around camp. Walk around camp with your guides, who will point out the pools and begin fishing.

Day 07 :

Rise and shine rather early - our vehicles drive the anglers to their respective beats.

Breakfast and refreshments are served on the anglers at their individual fishing locations.

Day 08 :

Fish through the day and explore beats further upriver.

Day 09 :

After a sumptuous breakfast, begin the drive back to the railway station to board train back to New Delhi.

The train gets into New Delhi at 2300hrs from where you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 10 :
