The Six-Day "Classic Fishing Adventure"

TRIP BREIFING: A Classic Mahseer fishing program that is based on a pristine section of the River Yammuna. This is a great fishing adventure that packs in a great deal of culture and adventure. The trip involves mild trekking though some remote Himalayan villages to get to our camp. One can see the monstrous Himalayan Mahseer in the clear waters of the river. This is a highly recommended trip and offers plenty of great fishing opportunities.

  • Abundant opportunities for encountering Mahseer.

  • A superb introduction to Mahseer fishing in the Himalayan Rivers.

  • A river and its tributaries, which have always been considered an excellent fishing ground for the Mighty Mahseer.

  • Remote village hike, as part of the program.

  • Fish some of the most pristine sections on this river.

  • Route takes you away from the traditional tourist scene.

The Yammuna is another one of the more productive Mahseer rivers. It originates and flows through the north Indian state of Uttarkhand (formerly known as Uttaranchal); along the way it is joined by various tributaries, some of which hold great promise for the Himalayan Mahseer. Most spring fed tributaries of the Yammuna are not very large and run clear for most of the year. Besides the Himalayan Mahseer, the river also sustains a population of Indian Trout.

The Yammuna River is very scenic and because of its accessibility it is a very popular venue for the anglers who'd like a quick experience with the Mahseer. There are several non-angling activities available if someone in your group is not a keen angler.

Anglers are driven in our vehicles to the various beats on the river. Our boats are also brought into use in a small lake, which the river forms a short distance ahead of our camp.

We highly recommend this river for anglers who do not have much time available and would like a good introduction to Mahseer fishing.

Suggested Program

Day 01 :

Arrive at New Delhi international airport in the early hours of the morning, where you will be met by a representative of the Himalayan Outback and transferred to the railway station. In the event we have some time to spare, we can stop over and freshen up before boarding the train.

Board train from New Delhi Railway Station at 0740 hrs, for a three-hour train ride. At this point you will be met and transferred to the camp on the banks of the Yammuna. One is at the camp by approx. 1400 hrs, have lunch and settle into camp. Float down into the lake in the evening and fish into the night.

Over night at camp on the banks of the river.

Day 02 :

Fish the lake and the rivers section in the morning. Soon after breakfast we head out to the Mahseer sanctuary where you experience large numbers of these powerful fish very close. This is followed by lunch and a drive to the starting point of your trek, which is a forty (40) minute drive from the Mahseer sanctuary.

A beautiful trek along the river leads you to some of the very remote sections of the river. Several pools are located here, which are seldom fished. This trek takes approx. two hours. You will be at the camp by teatime and can start fishing almost as soon as you get there.

Day 03 :

Fish the pools through the day - there is a series of them all along; this is a stunning bit of river!

Day 04 :

Fish different pools through the day, moving up and down the river. Enjoy the area when not fishing, swim in this pristine river and observe the monstrous fish as they swim up and down the river.

Day 05 :

Trek up river to fish some more remote pools.

Day 06 :

Begin the trek rather early in the morning to back from where you started it. Drive back to the railway station, from where you board the comfortable Shatabdi Express train to New Delhi, which gets you there by 2130hrs and carry on to the airport to board your flight back to your destination.
