The Alaknanda river expedition

The Alaknanda, one of the two major rivers, which flow into the mighty Ganges, it is another great river for someone who is looking at a pleasant introduction to river expeditions. The river consists of an assortment of medium sized rapids, which are safe yet accelerating.

The river would make a perfect get way for a family or a bunch of friends looking for a great time and a holiday of a different kind, the river expedition is a unique way of experiencing the culture and magnificence of the region.

We start the expedition at a place called Rudraprayag, and end it in Rishikesh, an approximate of a hundred and twenty kilometers of rafting. All supplies and logistical equipment is carried on our rafts and camp is established along the journey down the river on the many pristine sand beaches along the riverside.

The expedition on the third day floats into the Ganges, at Devprayag, where the two rivers, the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda converge and form the Ganges.

Along the way there will be plenty of opportunities to indulge in Hiking and fishing.

The last day however s the high point of the white water rafting as the rapids are terrific, with an assortment of them at regular intervals.

 

Suggested Program:

Day 01: Board over Haridwar bound Shatabdi Express from New Delhi railway station. Arrive in Haridwar railway station where you’ll met and transferred to Rudraprayag, packed lunch on route.
Reach Rudraprayag in the evening, and spend night at rest house.

Day 02: After a sumptuous breakfast, outfit your self in the river gear and get briefed by our river guides on as to what lies ahead, today we jumpstart you with some great rapids, all class two and three. An exciting day with some thirty-river kilometers of white water lies ahead. Packed lunch is served on one of the pristine sand beaches on riverside. Plenty of opportunity to jump into the river and body surf. Find a camping spot on the banks of the river and camp overnight.

Day 03: Rather early start today considering that there’s is a fair amount of rafting in the day ahead. Today again there are a fair number of rapids through the section and we float into the Ganges. Some three to four hours of white water rafting, camp is set up along the way on the Ganges.

Day 04: A relatively slow start today, a good day to relax, swim and enjoy the tranquility of the river as you drift down stream, the rapids today are scarcely distributed. Reach camp relatively early today and try your hand at some fishing. Some fantastic fishing is to be had around the vicinity of camp.
You even have the option of hiking to a beautiful village near camp.

Day 05: A fantastic white water section awaits you today, with lotsclass three and a class four rapid, now that you are familiar with the rafting, this should not be a problem.
Today is the last day of the expedition and indeed a very fulfilling one too.
The expedition comes to an end at Rishikesh from where you are taken to the hotel and back to urbanization, after spending a few days in the wild. A visit to the town is arranged in the evening, along with a guided tour to the ghats for the evening prayer ceremony (Arti).
After dinner depart for the railway station at Haridwar to board the over night Mussoorie Express which gets you to Delhi early the next morning.
