The team at Himalayan Outback, behind and on the scenes,
of what is a highly professional operation. These folks are
dedicated to converting what you think is just an "outdoor
trip", into "the adventure of a lifetime".
Misty
Dhillon: A fervent angler, his love for the Mighty
Mahseer of India, has led him to follow his dream by turning
his leisure pursuit into a full time career. Misty started his
professional guiding career back in 1998. Since then he has
guided several fishing and fly-fishing expeditions on most rivers
of Indian Himalayas, including the Ganges, the Saryu/Kali river
system, the Yammuna, the Satluj, the Beas and their tributaries,
amongst others.
His personal best is a Mahseer of 55 pounds on spinning, which
was taken in April 2003 from the river Ganges. Besides that
Misty and his guests have had many fish in the 20 - 50 pound
range.
Over the years Misty has developed some unique fly-fishing techniques
and fly patterns for fishing the Mahseer. One of his inventions
is the "Misty's perception Mahseer" - a fly which
has proven to be one of the most effective flies while fly-fishing
for Mahseer in the Himalayan rivers. Misty is perhaps one of
the few fly-fishing guides for the Mahseer.
In addition to being fishing and fly-fishing guide, Misty is
also a, licensed, white water rafting guide, and has rafted
down a number of the Himalayan Rivers.
Misty has written several articles on the Himalayan Mahseer,
which have been posted on a number of international angling
web sites. He is considered an authority on this subject. Misty
is the Managing Partner of The Himalayan Outback.
Ramesh Singh Rana: Ramesh
comes from the Uttarkashi province of Garhwal in Uttaranchal
- an area where mountains and rivers are part of everyday life.
In spite of having done his Masters in English Literature, Ramesh's
developed a fondness for trekking to an extent that he decided
to take it on as a full time career.
He has guided treks extensively in the states of Uttaranchal
and Himachal Pradesh and knows several treks like the back of
his hand.
Ramesh is also an upcoming river guide and a passionate birder.
Apart of being a trekking guide/consultant, Ramesh also manages
operations for the Himalayan Outback.
Ravi
Rawat: A native of Uttarkashi, Ravi is a another
The Himalayan Outback's diehard guide; Ravi has a craze for
trekking in the Himalayas, he dreams of reaching the summit
of Mount Everest some day.
Ravi is a seasoned trekking guide and has pioneered several
treks in the course of the years.
Bhupinder Singh Rana: An ardent kayaker, Bhupinder's enthusiasm
for the sport has made him one of the youngest guides in the
sport.
At the "ripe old age" of 22 he's multi talented in
adventure activities and has even guided treks. His dedication
to white water rafting and kayaking has brought him to the arrangement
of a dream job.
Kundan Lamma: With years
of white water rafting experience under his belt, Kundan is
considered one of the best rafting guides in the business. The
number of rivers he has run in the years has probably exceeded
his age!
Having done a major part of his guiding in the wild Nepalese
rivers like Marciangdi and Bhotti Kosi, Kundan has rafted a
vast majority of rivers even in the Indian Himalayas.
His most pleasant personality often makes him a favorite amongst
guests.
Romesh
Chand: A "legend" in the true sense of
the word. Few fishing guides in northern India could match Romesh
in experience. Romesh specializes in the Saryu/Kali river system.
Born and brought up in a tiny mountain town, Romesh is truly
a man who has "seen it all", in some of India's finest
spinning and fly fishing waters with regards to the Mahseer,
having fished extensively with legendry Mahseer anglers like
Darren Cook and Ian Tank.
We call him "the human sonar" due to his uncanny ability
to find the exact spot where the fish are.
Surender
Kumar: From the famous "Casting for Gold"
days, along with famous angler and presenter John Bailey and
Paul Boot, Surendra is the guide for the river Ganges- another
one of the legendry league of north Indian guides. Surendra
has guided several fishing trips over the years on both the
Ganges and the Kali/Saryu river system.
He's a favorite amongst anglers for his great temperament and
unique fish finding abilities.
Parlad Singh Negi: A young
guide and a passionate angler, Paralad belongs to Byas Ghat
on the Ganges. Having done most of his guiding on the Ganges,
Pralad is also familiar with the Yammuna and the Kali/Saryu
river system.
Gagender Singh Rawat: The most important man on our
expeditions, without who the trip would be a calamity! Trekking
or paddling all day long and then supervising the days meals
and that too with the high standards the company demands, catering
to all of this in a proper kitchen in the heart of a bustling
city is easy, but to do so in the harsh terrain of the outback
of the Himalayas is quite another thing - and all with a smile!
Gajju, "The Chef", had proven his efficiency in producing
great cuisine even in the middle of nowhere.
Kartar Singh Chauhan: Kartar
forms Gajju's right hand on these trips, getting the meals and
other logistics in at the right time. Kartar is a true workhorse
with his "never say die" attitude. He has several
successful expeditions to his credit.
Kartar surely isn't in it just for a living, he relishes his
profession utterly, and dreams of learning how to kayak one
day.
Dinesh Tiwari: Driver and
Coordinator on all major operations of The Himalayan Outback.
Dinesh's pleasing personality have ensured that even the long
and slow drives along the torturous Himalayan roads seem a lot
shorter than they actually are!
