The Buran Pass Trek

TRIP BREIFING : -

  • Another one of the most unfrequented and spectacular treks on offer.
  • This trekking route takes you away from the traditional tourist scene.
  • Crosses over through two spectacular passes.

Buran Pass is at an elevation of 4,725 meters and is one of favorite our “off the beaten track” treks. One will experience the cultures of both the Garhwal region and of Himachal Pradesh, which we cross into. This trek ends in the Karcham area of the famous Sangla Valley in state of Himachal Pradesh.

The shepards, or Gaddis, of the area pioneered the Buran Pass trek as they transited from one area to the other in search of fresh pastures for grazing their cattle. The trek takes you through some beautiful forests, which are very rich and diverse in its flora and landscape.

One goes over two passes on this trek, Changsil (4,000 meters) and the Buran (5,175 meters). From Changshil Pass one gets a great panoramic view of the greater Himalayas, while from the Buran Pass one can see the Kinner Kailash {6,800 meters) and other peaks in Himachal Pradesh.

This challenging trek gets us from the Tons/Yammuna Garhwal watershed into the Sangla Valey (Satluj) water shed, crossing the high Buran Pass.

Suggested Program:

Day 01: Board the early morning Sharanpur bound Shatabdi Express from New Delhi Railway Station, arriving at Sahranpur at approximately 1100 hrs, where you will be met by a representative of The Himalayan Outback and transferred to our Tons camp. The drive from Sahranpur to the camp takes you along the beautiful River Yammuna and takes roughly six hours.

Day 02: Enjoy a relaxed day at our Tons river camp where you can indulge in some white water rafting down this very scenic river, or enjoy a gentle hike to a pristine stream for a swim.

Day 03: We start early after a lavish breakfast today to begin our trek into one of the finest, most untouched areas in the Indian Himalayas. A two hour drive takes us to the starting point of our trek from where we undertake a short trek to reach the Balcha Meadows, where camp is established.

Day 04: We begin a six hour trek from Balcha Meadows to Sanawaat / Batawathaatch (elevation 3,420 meters). The trek covers a distance of ten kilometers but is across steep terrain.

Day 05: The expedition departs from Sanawaat / Batawathaatch to the base of Changshila Pass (3,780 meters). Today’s trek takes you through some beautiful landscape with some enormous meadows and splendid flora.

Day 06: An early start today as the expedition needs to cross the Changshila Pass (4,000 meters) and camp at a tiny place called Dudi. We will cover over twelve kilometers and pass through some of the most beautiful and remote areas in the region. We will camp overnight at Dudi, where the team is supplied with fresh rations for the trek ahead.

Day 07: From Dudi we leave for Janglik, a thirteen kilometers long trek. Camp is set up for the night on the banks of a beautiful stream.

Day 08: Today is a relatively leisurely trek from Janglik to Mounty across beautiful countryside with some great opportunity to experience Himachal culture. We will camp at Mounty for the night.

Day 09: We will spend the day at our camp in Mounty as this is a rest day.

Day 10: A four hour trek will get us to the base of Buran Pass. We set up camp at Bianala Meadows (3,990 meters)

Day 11: A fairly strenuous day, as the expedition makes it over the Buran Pass (5,175 meters). You will get to see some breathtaking views of the Kinner Kailash (6,800 meters) and other peaks in its vicinity.

Day 12: Today is the final day of the expedition as you trek from Burru Dogri to Karcham. Our vehicles will meet us at Karcham and transfer the group to a beautiful and quaint resthouse. Overnight we will camp at this resthouse

Day 13: A seven hour drive gets us to Kalka to catch the Shatabdi express train for Delhi. You arrive in Delhi by 2130 hrs the same evening.
