Camp MahseerThe Himalayan Outback is pleased to introduce one of the first specialised Mahseer fishing camps in Northern India that is operational ten months a year. As you may know that we specialise in float trips in search of these legendary game fish throughout the Himalayan foothills and because of a great demand from anglers who did not have the time to undertake a float trip we decided to go ahead and also set up "Camp Mahseer"!This concept is based on The Himalayan Outback's theme of remote and productive sporting waters for Mahseer game fishing in the Himalayas. Our guides have spent several weeks guiding fishing and fly-fishing trips on this section of river and have had great results here on both spinning and on the fly. "Camp Mahseer" is set in a beautiful meadow overlooking a fast flowing river that forms pools at regular intervals - this section of river provides a perfect introduction into the world of Mighty Himalayan Mahseer. From camp itself the guides can point out the monstrous fish that swim in this section of river. The guides will even take you to a Mahseer sanctuary where you can see the Mahseer up close. The Himalayan Outback maintains a two (2) mile remote and productive section of this river. A real blessing indeed! "Camp Mahseer" is a two hour trek from the road head and the guests are escorted by our seasoned guides. The luggage is transferred to from the vehicles to the camp by local porters. Despite its remote location the camp carters to just about anything you could ask for in a remote location. The large Safari tents accommodate two guests comfortably and are outfitted with cots, fresh linen, chairs, and a table. In fact, this section of river came into the lime-light after a series of successful fly-fishing trips. Throughout the history of Mahseer fishing, there have been few mentions of "Mahseer on the Fly". For us at The Himalayan Outback we have had great success with fly-fishing for the Mighty Mahseer in remote locations surrounded by picturesque mountains and beautiful villages. This is an experience we are excited to share! Misty Dhillon one of The Himalayan Outback's fishing guides specializes in fly-fishing for Mahseer. He is responsible for the creation of over fifteen Mahseer fly patterns and is known in the industry for his unique Mahseer game fishing techniques. For Misty the Mahseer is more than just a sport, it is a heartfelt passion. He is also working on Mahseer conservation programs and is also part of the International Committee of IGFA Representatives. The charm of fishing remote Himalayan waters for Mahseer is either on a fly or then on a lure. All of our fishing is "catch and release". We also offer fly-fishing courses at "Camp Mahseer". The week long course, hosted by Misty Dhillon, covers the basics of casting single and double handed fly rods, fly-tying, proper knots, and the guidance of how to have your own encounter with the Mighty Himalayan Mahseer. Each morning the cooks will bring out a hearty breakfast, followed by the day's fishing. Anglers return to camp for lunch and then set off again with their guides. Dinners and barbecues are served around the bonfire. The cooks prepare a variety of Indian and Continental cuisine, including barbecues. The journey to camp takes six (6) hours from New Delhi. The first three (3) hours is by train on which you are served breakfast and the remaining three (3) hours is by vehicle. For those who prefer not to take the train, the drive from Delhi takes approximately seven (7) hours. You can also view The Himalayan Outback's operation on the renowned International Fishing TV Show "What A Catch!" hosted by Kathryn Maroun. The show airs internationally on "Versus", "Fox Sports" and "A Channel". If you are unable to catch the broadcast you can order a DVD from www.whatacatch.net directly. The waters featured in the DVD were shot at The Himalayan Outback's new "Camp Mahseer"! If you have any problem in obtaining a copy of this DVD, send us an email and we will make sure that you receive a copy. To ensure that this remote tranquil location is preserved the way we first found it and to provide the most intimate fishing experience, we limit the number of clients at one time at "Camp Mahseer" . This also means availability is limited. If you are ready for an experience of a lifetime give us a call and join us on our latest fishing adventure! |
